National Sew a Jelly Roll Day
If only jelly rolls were donuts.
Ooh, ... donuts.
Thankfully Jelly Rolls are neither donuts or edible. My waist line thanks you. Jelly Rolls are are these delicious precut 42, 2 1/2" strips x width of fabric and super easy to use for binding and quick quilt blocks. There are always a few print repeats to make a total of 42 strips and oh so many patterns made from them!
I've been wanting to try something different with jelly rolls for a while and this seemed like the best excuse. The hardest part is pulling of that pretty pre-cut Moda ribbon they all come packaged in. Just do it, quick... like a band-aid.
Just for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day on September 16, I designed a new pattern! Cross Weave Pillow Cover pattern. I don't know about your house, but I make new pillow covers pretty regularly. (read: mother of boys)
Now from your newly released jelly roll, sort out the prints you like the best, the one that has the most color ways to get started. From the Tuppence collection I picked out the navy, and they match my living room.
Follow the instructions in the Cross Weave pattern for the details. This was super fun to do a little less sewing, but more pressing. The end result has the most amazing texture.
Here is a tip, use a large paperclip or sewing pin to give a sturdy "needle" on the end. It makes it so much easier to feed the strips over and under.
To celebrate National Sew a Jelly Roll Day on September 16th (thanks Moda for making this official!) I'm giving away 2 Tuppence fabric jelly rolls + my new Cross Weave pillow pattern! 1 for you, 1 for a friend.
